The Anti-Corruption Commission is being shut down, and its functions are being transferred to the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) and the State Agency for National Security (DANS). This was decided by the MPs from the parliamentary legal committee with the adoption at first reading of amendments to the Audit Office Act, submitted by GERB party, reporter Dobrina Karambolova reported.

The proposals of “DPS – New Beginning” and PP–DB were rejected. The party of Delyan Peevski, “DPS – New Beginning,” had envisaged the commission’s functions being transferred to DANS and the Audit Office.

PP–DB called for the creation of a smaller commission to carry out corruption prevention and to examine conflicts of interest, while the investigative functions would be transferred to the investigative authorities. According to the co-chair of “Yes, Bulgaria” (PP–DB), Bozhidar Bozhanov, in its current form the CPC is used as a bludgeon, and therefore it should be shut down.
