Brussels library adds new Bulgarian titles to its collection

Some of the latest and most popular works by contemporary Bulgarian authors are now available to book lovers who read Bulgarian in Brussels. The Bulgarian book collection at the Sophia Municipal Library located in the Schaerbeek district, has been enriched with several new adult titles, including “Nishka” by Viktoria Beshliiska, “Roads of Fire” by Maria Laleva, “Mamnik” by Vasil Popov, “The Pain Comes Later” by Antonia Apostolova, “Trifena” by Kostadina Kostova, “Avenue ‘Versailles” by Demetra Duleva, “ Backwards Up the River ” by Plamen Antov, and others.

• Bulgaria in a Special Corner of the Library in Brussels’ Schaerbeek District

Due to the significant growth of the Bulgarian population in the Schaerbeek district of Brussels, in early 2019 the management of the library decided to open a section dedicated to Bulgarian literature. Librarian Aaron Willem played a key role in establishing the Bulgarian section at the Sophia Municipal Library, which offers not only a wide selection of books but also cozy corners for reading and conversation. The most frequent visitors to the library are children from the Bulgarian Sunday School “Peyo Yavorov”, located in the same neighborhood, as well as Bulgarians working in the European institutions. 

The book collection includes contemporary, classical, and children’s literature, as well as foreign literature translated into Bulgarian.

A group of volunteers with Bulgarian roots—writers, translators, teachers, and artists—actively work with the library and participate in selecting titles, so that the Bulgarian book collection appeals to all tastes and preferences.
