Just days after an initiative by a parent committee and the team at the Bulgarian Embassy in Doha established the Bulgarian Sunday School “Azbuki” classes officially began at the new school, according to information from the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in the capital of Qatar.

The embassy’s hall was transformed into a cozy classroom with a blackboard and all the necessary teaching materials, welcoming its first 16 students, aged 5 to 11. The first lessons were taught by the two teachers, Nora Mihaylova and Ivanka Ivanova.

“For some students, the first lesson was their first real contact with their native language - not just the version heard at home from one or both parents, but proper school-level Bulgarian with correct grammar. The language in which literary giants like Botev, Vazov, and Angel Karaliychev created their works,” the embassy noted, adding: “The first step of a long journey has already been taken.”
