Around 800 participants from close to 40 countries are taking part in the youth, junior and girls' European Shooting Championships, which are being held in Burgas.
The event was officially opened on Tuesday by Burgas's mayor, Dimitar Nikolov, and Vesela Lecheva, president of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and vice-president of the European Shooting Confederation. The competition runs from 4 to 14 February. Admission for spectators is free.
This is the first time in three decades that Bulgaria has hosted such a large-scale continental shooting event. Previously, the country hosted the European Shooting Championships in 1975, 1985, 1992 and 1996.
