Unfulfilled promises discourage Bulgarians from voting the
most, according to a survey by “Gallup International Balkan” commissioned by the
Bulgarian National Television.
46% of respondents say they are unwilling to vote because of politicians’
unfulfilled promises. 28% are put off by the mutual attacks between
politicians, and 14% are dissatisfied with the lack of specificity.
44% of respondents cite the desire for a change in governance as the strongest incentive to vote. For 24%, the MPs included on the party lists are important. 21% would be motivated to go to the polls by clearly formulated and concrete policies. 9% of respondents state that they usually do not vote.
Among the key qualities voters seek in politicians, 70% cite honesty and 68% cite competence. 49% of respondents expect political leaders to be close to the people, while 36% want politicians to be unifiers.
