President Iliana Iotova pays tribute to Vasil Levski's bas-relief in Monza

During her visit to Italy for the opening of the XXV Winter Olympic Games, President Iliana Iotova paid tribute to the bas-relief of the Bulgarian national hero - revolutionary Vasil Levski in Monza. The city is home to the second largest Bulgarian community in Italy.

The sculpture of the Apostle of Freedom is the work of Boris Borisov and was donated by the Karlovo Municipality last year. This is the first monument to the Bulgarian revolutionary in Italy, the presidency announced

The president was welcomed in Monza by Mayor Paolo Piloto. Before him, the head of state emphasized that for the Bulgarian people, Levski is a shrine, a lesson in duty, dignity and integrity, intolerance of injustice, equality.

"Levski is our example of the power of inner freedom," Yotova emphasized. She pointed out that the monuments to the Apostle throughout Bulgaria and abroad strongly attract everyone who carries a piece of him in their soul. According to the President, the Bulgarian and Italian national heroes had the ability to look ahead in time, bequeathing to us the ideas of equality and solidarity.
