Internationally acclaimed violinist Mila Geogrieva was born in Sofia to a family of musicians. She started playing the violin at age 4, and a few years later won a range of competitions in Bulgaria and abroad. Her first tour outside Bulgaria was with conductor Emil Yanev. She has studied at JuilliardSchool in New York and at Guildhall School in London.

Last month Mila Geogrieva presented in Bulgaria Hall a new work of music composed for her. More from her, in an interview for Radio Bulgaria.

“Georgi Arnaudov wrote for me this three-movement violin concerto. The project was quite intriguing as it gave me an opportunity to participate in the whole process of creating the work. It is really important for the author to convey his idea to the performer. Being the first interpreter of a piece of music is tantamount to great freedom. I am open to various styles and works, though being a Bulgarian violinist, I have been strongly influenced by the Russian school. I have played many works by Russian composers. After I became a concertmaster I entered a different music circles and thanks to it I discovered some interesting contemporary works. I believe that a more varied repertoire enriches the performer.”

Since 2002 Mila Georgieva has been the youngest concertmaster of the Symphpny Orchestra of Radio Stuttgart.

“I was very happy, but at the same time I was aware of the responsibility I took, as I had not worked with such an orchestra before that. I had to face a few difficulties that I had to deal with quickly. I have learned a lot in that position. German orchestras are very professional, and I am really verygrateful to the people who trusted in me and my ability to succeed in the job.”

By the end of the year Mila Georgieva will not concertize in Bulgariahowever she is working on a tour with the Sofia Soloists Chamber orchestra in October.

“I have been to Japan many times. I love to play there and I am always warmly welcomed. With Sofia Soloists I have concertized in that country a few times. Our latest joint tour was three years ago. I am happy to team up with them again and I hope the experience will be worth the effort.”
