For the period of ten years from 2008 to 2018, the number of people killed in road accidents has decreased by 37 percent, the latest Eurostat data shows. The number of road deaths per capita is lowest in Ireland and Denmark, and highest in Romania and Bulgaria. Ireland has 29 road accident victims per 1 million inhabitants, followed by Denmark (30), Sweden (32) and the Netherlands (35). Romania leads the black list with 96 victims per 1 million inhabitants, followed by Bulgaria (87), Croatia and Latvia (87 each) and Poland (75).
