“Who are you wandering through historical events?” is the motto of the web site of the Bulgarian writer and historian Vera Mutafchieva (VeraMutafchieva.net) The site was created in the memory of Vera Mutafchieva by the New Bulgarian University. Academician Mutafchieva was born in 1929 in Sofia in the family of renowned historian, professor Petar Mutafchiev. Vera Mutafchieva passed away on June 9 2009. The web-site is in Bulgarian and English and contains detailed biography and bibliography. The site includes a number of works, essays, letters, interviews, and articles about Ms Muafchieva. She is a prizewinner and honorable doctor of the New Bulgarian University. The university stores a great number of the books from her father’s collection, as well as hers. The site pays special attention to the joint initiative of the NBU and Vera Mutafchieva entitled “History populated with people”. It throws light on the past through the stories of ordinary people told in 110 interviews.

The premier of The Gnroenholm Method (El Metode Groenholm) by Catalonian playwright Jordi Galceran Ferrer will take place on March 28 in the Theatre of the Nations in Moscow. Director is Yavor Gurdev, known for his innovative style. Mr Ferrer was a guest to the premier in Moscow. “It dwells on the logic of the corporate culture, work ethics, and on the question of how far one can go in order to win against the competitors,” director Yavor Gurdev says. “It is a tale of crossing moral boundaries in order to reach success in career.” The director received an invitation from the Theatre of Nations a year and half ago. Rehearsals of the Groenholm Method started in January 2010. Set designer Nikola Toromanov and composer Kalin Nikolov are the other Bulgarians part of Gurdev’s crew. Meanwhile the award-winning movie “Dzift” of Yavor Gurdev was released on a DVD in Russia.

The international modern dance festival “Antistatic” will take place for the third time in Sofia on April 8-12. The festival will include 11 shows, as 3 will be premiers. The festival will start with a one-man performance by renowned Bulgarian dancer Ivo Dimchev, who has been living in Belgium for a few years. “ He is very busy but managed to find time for us,” Stefan Shterev, who is one of the organizers of the event, said. Renowned French dancers Cecilia Bengolea and Francois Chignaud will present the provocative show “Paquerette” with its intimate study of the abilities of the human body. Macedonian Alexander Georgiev, Slovenian Goran Bogdanovski, Bulgarian dance company “Dune” and others will also take part in the festival. Galina Borisova’s work will also be presented at the festival, as she is the author of expressive dance shows and is known for her abilities to easily include contemporary topics in her work, such as the global warming. This time the author is provoked by the TV reality shows and her performance is entitled “VIP Dance – there is still something to be done…”

The exhibition “Touch of Light” opened on March 24 in the Sofia City Gallery. It is dedicated to the 70-year birth anniversary of Bulgarian sculptor Thomas Kochev. The exhibition includes ceramic, wooden, and bronze sculptures, as well as a number of drawings. Mr Kochev passed away in 1997. His favorite material was wood and his sculptures have the characteristics of live and warm matter. Thomas Kochev was born in Greece. In 1948 he moved with his family to Yugoslavia and then to Czechoslovakia and Romania. In 1971 he moved to Bulgaria where he stayed for the rest of his life. He has a number of awards and a great number of exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

An exhibition of Georgi Lipovanski has opened in the Arte Gallery in Sofia and will continue until April 11. The paintings displayed were created in the past two years and focus on the contemporary mythology of socialism, Europe, and other topics, related to the Bulgarian reality. A number of paintings are dedicated to music and include the characters of Verdi or Eric Clapton. Georgi Lipovanski is a successful artist with a number of international awards and exhibitions.
