Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev officially opened the modernized Bezmer airport near Yambol.

Over 62 million Leva has been invested in lengthening the runway and in the airport’s infrastructure. The aim of the airport’s modernization is to make it fully compatible with NATIO standards for the deployment of strategic transport aircraft, Prime Minister Borissov said at the opening. But if the need arises, in emergencies or in the event of dangerous weather it can also be used by civil aircraft, day or night.

Prime Minister Borissov stated further that he was against putting up a fence along the border with an EU country like Greece but that at the same time “people are expecting us to protect our border.” He once again commented that no flow of migrants into Bulgaria was to be expected from Turkey, but that the critical point now was in Greece.
