A woman from the Roma district in Parardzhik was fined for wearing a burqa in public. This is the first financial sanction since last Wednesday when the municipal councilors in Pazardzhik introduced a ban on wearing burqas. According to the law, the first fine amounts to EUR 150. The fine reaches EUR 500 if the same person violates the law again. Moreover, the woman was also sanctioned under the Bulgarian ID Act, because she failed to present any ID card.
