Foreign Minister Mitov: Bulgaria does not accept the reinstatement of the death penalty in Turkey

“We can, under no circumstances, accept the reinstatement of the death penalty in Turkey,” said Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov in Brussels. “We are apprised of developments in Turkey and ours is the valid position that rule of law, following democratic European practices must be the guiding principle in the reactions of the authorities in Turkey,” Minister Mitov said. In his words developments must not reach a spiral of violence or lead to the reinstatement of practices rejected in a European context.
“It is important to us to see that the implementation of the migration agreement between the EU and Turkey is continued. We are continuing our cooperation with the Turkish authorities, with the Turkish border police in this sphere. There is no cause for concern, nor is there a surge in the migration pressure at this time but, be as it may, this is a conversation that must be continued,” Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said.
