The Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad is holding an annual conference at the St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia.
In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, Kamelia Konakchieva, founder and headmistress of the St. St. Cyril and Methodius school in Paris commented that there are around 300 Sunday schools abroad, attended by no more than 20,000 children, adding that close to 90 percent of Bulgarian children living abroad are not studying their native language. 10,000 school-goers left Bulgaria last year alone. In the words of Kamelia Konakchieva, the state policy with regard to Bulgarian schools abroad must change.
