Forest fires in Bulgaria cause damages to the tune of EUR 3 million in 2016

Large forest fires in Bulgaria caused damages to the tune of over EUR 3 million this summer. 5,000 firefighters, 2,000 volunteers and 400 soldiers took part at the firefighting operations this year. A total of 6,200 hectares of forests burnt in 527 fires. Nearly 70% of the forest fires are caused by human negligence and only 6% of them are caused on purpose. We will launch a single surveillance system in 2018, Head of Strategies and Forestry planning at the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food Spas Todorov announced.
