Some ten days ago when the caretaker government fired 14 district governors because of negative assessment of their work, this week seven more were changed as the reason was said to be their participation in the upcoming early elections. On Friday, caretaker Prime Minister Gerdzhikov summarized the results of the audit made by his office to the legacy of the government of Boyko Borissov. In half of the ministries rigged procurement procedures were discovered, as most irregularities were recorded in the ministries of defense, healthcare, agriculture and economy. The prime minister said that 14 days were not enough for an in-depth analysis but said work would continue. The first negative reactions from the ranks of the former ruling politicians were not late.
Former Defense Minister Nikolai Nenchev suspected that the revision in the defense ministry was a pre-election move aimed to compromise him as a political leader and likely candidate for MP. Seven governors questioned the reasons for their dismissal and accused the interim government in unfair practices. Some observers pointed out that more alarming than the release of previous governors was their replacing with people close to the BSP. Given that the main task of a caretaker government is to organize and hold the elections on 26 March, some question the very meaning of the revision of the work o the government of Borissov. The effect of this criticism is reinforced by severe problems related to the organization of elections. It turns out, for example, that while identifying weaknesses in the "Borissov 2" cabinet caretaker government has failed to cooperate with the CEC, for providing a sufficient number of voting machines, as required by the Election Code.
On the eve of the election campaign, the caretaker Government is subject to criticism that instead of preparing the elections, it was dealing with personnel changes, revenge and confrontation. A little more than a month before the elections, the political situation in Bulgaria is extremely tense and contradictory.
