Visits to Bulgarian museums in 2016 increased by 9.8 percent

Visits to museums in Bulgaria in 2016 were 5,230,000 and compared to 2015, they increased by 9.8 percent. Approximately one quarter of them (1 223 thousand) took place on free-entry days, it was reported.

Increased visits of foreigners to museums were registered too - 36.8-percent growth, compared to the previous year. This was announced by the National Statistical Institute. At the end of last year there were 195 museums registered in Bulgaria under the Cultural Heritage Act.

They are divided into 88 general and 107 specialized museums.
