Four Balkan countries members of the EU - Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Croatia - will help the European integration of the remaining six countries of the region together. Agreement on this was reached at a working meeting in New York of the top diplomats of these countries, among them the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Croatia agreed to visit the candidate countries together and demonstrate that they support them in their efforts to meet the EU membership criteria. The ministers made an overview of what has been achieved thus far by Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, the Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and agreed to give their political and expert support to their European prospects.

This means making the Western Balkans a priority for Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, but also for the remaining EU member countries in the region, reads a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.
