There is serious interest towards Bulgaria’s EU Presidency, Lilyana Pavlova states

The first three months of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU have been successful, Minister Lilyana Pavlova says. She reported achievements in favor of all European citizens before the parliamentary committee on European affairs.

100 events out of the 324 envisaged in the schedule of the Presidency have been held through the trimester in Sofia, with the participation of nearly 10,000 delegates. Our Brussels experts have been working actively on the legislative program with 700 sessions held of the Council of the EU’s working bodies. We have marked progress on the debate for the preservation of the Cohesion policy within the new European budget, the reform of the common European asylum system etc.

The preparation of the May Summit on the European perspective for the Western Balkans has been ongoing in regard to the leading priority of the Bulgarian Presidency and a Sofia declaration is expected to be adopted then with concrete projects clearly outlined and scheduled.

Final texts on climate regulation, energy effectiveness of buildings’ directives, garbage, the geographic blocking at online shopping etc. have been adopted so far during the Bulgarian Presidency. “The interest towards the Presidency has been huge, I can say today,’ Minister Pavlova underlined. She pointed out the 18,000 media publications, related to the first two months of the Presidency, only 5.6% of those having been negative. The Sofia Summit on May 16 – 17th is expected to be covered by 1,000 accredited international media. Over 40,000 live stream views of the Presidency’s major sittings have been registered. The predominant age of the online portal broadcast viewers is 25 – 34, which is a positive fact.
