The 140th anniversary of the first military school and the start of military education in Bulgaria was marked in Veliko Turnovo. Bulgarian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian armed forces Rumen Radev, Minister of Defence Krasimir Karakachanov and Chief of Defence Andrey Botsev took part in the celebrations at the Vassil Levski National Military University.

In his address, the Bulgarian President stated that professionally trained officers, sergeants and soldiers form the foundation of the modern army Bulgaria needs, and laid emphasis on the need to invest more in the training of Bulgaria’s future military leaders. He indicated that modern weapons and technologies will never be able to compensate for personnel shortages in the Bulgarian army.
