A 300-years-old Quercus cerris from the village of Rani lug, Tran municipality, will be the Bulgarian nomination in the "European Tree of the Year 2019" competition. The Bulgarian Environmental Partnership Foundation announced that the centuries-old tree was chosen by 1236 votes after a national poll. The tree was declared centuries-old tree back in 1983. It is 20 meters high and has a trunk circumference of about 4.80 meters. In addition to presenting Bulgaria at the international competition the tree will be diagnosed and recommendations for appropriate care by the European Arboricultural Council. The vote will start on February 1 and will continue until the end of the same month.
