The fact that the Prosecutor General is not subject to any control makes him the most powerful political figure in Bulgaria, said Lozan Panov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Cassation at a meeting with President Rumen Radev.

The two discussed the upcoming procedure for electing a new Prosecutor General.

“He is empowered to charge anyone he chooses to with anything he chooses to, whenever he chooses to do so,” Lozan Panov commented.

Contrary to Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov, who already discussed the election of his successor with President Radev, Lozan Panov stated that the consultations with the Bulgarian head of state are timely. Panov has renewed his proposal for constitutional changes to restrict the powers of the prosecutor general.
