At the opening of the 6th News Agencies World Congress at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, President Rumen Radev stated that the boom of social media has swept away the established algorithms for collecting information, and financial problems have been pushing the media to political and economic dependency, undermining ethical standards and creating an acute shortage of timely and accurate information.

“Today the truth is often drowned in a sea of fake news, the destructive effect of information being more powerful than that of bombs or missiles,” the Bulgarian head of state said. In the words of the President, the focus of the congress - “The Future of News” - is actually about the future of the human race.
