Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov inspected the first activities under the pilot project of Kavarna Municipality near the Black Sea related to the restoration of the Ponto-Sarmatian steppes. This is the first project of that kind in Bulgaria and Europe. The Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water allotted EUR 100,000 for its fulfillment. The restoration of the steppes is part of the measures Bulgaria has to fulfill in relation with the infringement procedure initiated against this country over the disturbance of the natural habitat of the Ponto-Sarmatian steppes which are protected in Natura 2000 network of protected areas. The infringement procedure was initiated due to large-scale projects for wind power plants and construction projects which would destroy the habitat of many endangered and rare bird species.
