The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has declared an extreme fire danger index for today, 20 August, in parts of the territories of the regions of Montana, Pleven, Vratsa, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Dobrich, Lovech and Pazardzhik.

Intense, rapidly spreading fires, including to tree crowns, are possible in these parts of the country. The risk of fire is high in a total of 18 regions of Bulgaria.

In a televised interview this morning, Environment Minister Neno Dimov stated that as a result of the recent fires in the country the level of air pollutants has gone up, though it does not exceed admissible limits.
