The Council for Electronic Media in Bulgaria have called on the Director General of the Bulgarian National Radio, Svetoslav Kostov, to resign. If that did not happen by October 11, a new meeting of the media regulator would be organized, at which a procedure for early termination of the director’s term in office would start, it was reported. The decision to convene an extraordinary meeting of the council was taken after a noisy public scandal over alleged violations against the freedom of speech in the public media.

Svetoslav Kostov responded to the call for his resignation that he would not leave his position. If the council thought there was a reason for my dismissal, they could do it, said the BNR Director General.
