Bulgarian position on the language in North Macedonia gets parliamentary approval

Asked whether the position expressed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences that there was no Macedonian language was official, the Bulgarian ambassador in Skopje Angel Angelov said that this position was declared also by the Bulgarian Parliament and there was no other more official position. In October, the Bulgarian Parliament stated that support for the European integration of North Macedonia "would not be at the expense of distorting historical events, documents and artifacts, as well as the role of certain figures from Bulgarian history." The declaration calls on the Macedonian authorities "to apply effectively, without delay and in good faith, the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourly Relations and Co-operation of 2017" and to "strictly adhere to the formula established and ratified by the parliaments of the two countries regarding the official language of North Macedonia".
