The Bulgarian National Assembly appointed today Diana Kovacheva as Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria. 173 MPs voted in favor and 3 MPs abstained.
Diana Kovacheva became interim Ombudsman in September 2019 to complete the term of office of the former Ombudsman Maya Manolova who resigned to run for mayor of Sofia.
Kovacheva was the only candidate for this position. She was nominated by GERB party. The Bulgarian Socialist Party also voted in favor of her candidature. Diana Kovacheva will be Ombudsman of Bulgaria in the next 5 years.
