Bulgarian army is combat-ready despite outdated armaments

The National Assembly adopted the report on the state of defence and the armed forces in 2019.

The main conclusion is that the state of the defence capabilities of the Bulgarian armed forces allows them to perform their duties, though with limitations on time and volume. The factors which have a negative effect on the army’s defence capabilities are the outdated armaments and technology, as well as under-recruitment.  For the first time in 2019 the tendency has been checked of an increase in the number of job vacancies in the army. It is recommended that defence spending remain at 2% of the GDP in the period from 2020 until 2024.
