Plovdiv Metropolitan Nikolai consecrates new church in Rhodope village of Breze

Photo: archive

Church bells toll again in the Rhopode village of Breze. There was no church in the village for nearly one century. Once, there were five churches and a monastery in the region, whose ruins can still be seen. Only the names of some localities such as Chorkvata and Chorkovina remained. The construction of a new orthodox temple began in the remote 1995, mainly with donations. Today, the new church dedicated to Saint John the Forerunner was consecrated by Plovdiv Metropolitan Nikolai who headed the hierarchical liturgy.
