Protests in Bulgaria continue for 49th consecutive day

Tension between protesters and people dissatisfied with blockades of major intersections erupted on the 49th day of antigovernment protests in Bulgaria during the official opening of the third metro line in Sofia. Activists from “Together for Change” movement protested in front of the Spanish Embassy in Sofia. The protest was held under the motto: “The house in Barcelona- corruption in its purest form- we want investigation and action!”. 

The co-chairman of Democratic Bulgaria Hristo Ivanov addressed a letter to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and said there was a crisis of legality in Bulgaria. Ivanov, who is a former Minister of Justice in one of Premier Borissov’s cabinets, expresses dissatisfaction with the position of the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office sent to the Commission. The Prosecutor’s Office complained to Brussels about “the illegal pressure exerted by the protesters”.
