Farmers from Northeastern Bulgaria insist that they attend a hearing at the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Foods, BNR correspondent Maya Zhtarbanova informs. The farmers sent a letter to the committees’ chairperson and to this country’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Desislava Taneva due to the difficult situation of the agriculture sector.

The extremely bad meteorological conditions this year and the drought will lead to mass bankruptcies of farmers. This year’s harvest in Dobrich, Varna, Silistra and Shumen districts is three to five times lower than normal, the farmers point out in their letter and insist that the state authorities provide them financial assistance in the form of credits for their autumn agricultural activities. They also insist that the people employed in this sector are included in the 60/40 wage support scheme.
