Defence minister: Bulgaria abides by the goodneighbour agreement with Republic of North Macedonia

“We are abiding by the agreement, it is being breached by Skopje,” said Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov in response to the statement by Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev that Bulgaria was violating the goodneighbour agreement with its refusal to support the start of EU accession negotiations by the Republic of North Macedonia.

“We have been trying to give them our support so they can reach the EU membership criteria, one of which is settlement of bilateral problems with neighbours but obviously they are not willing,” Minister Karakachanov said, stressing that there is nowhere to fall back to, since our good intentions are not shared by Skopje. 

Together with President Rumen Radev and senior officers, Krasimir Karakachanov took part in the military ritual on Archangel's All Souls’ Day, honouring the memory of the fallen Bulgarian soldiers.
