Mountain climber Atanas Skatov wins international peace prize

At an official ceremony in Sofia, Atanas Skatov was awarded the Torch-Bearer Prize by the organizers of the world famous international relay Peace Run.

Skatov dedicated his achievements to environmental protection, to life in peace and harmony with nature and with oneself. In a documentary video about Atanas Skatov, the organizers of the relay present the personal philosophy and the achievements of the Bulgarian climber.

At the ceremony Atanas said he was touched, and on his part gave the organizers his latest book – Seven continental summits – a compilation of the personal diaries he kept while climbing the seven highest summits on the planet.

The new challenge for Atanas Skatov is to scale K2 (8,611 m.) in winter.  He has left on an expedition to Karakoram, a mountain between Pakistan and India, in an attempt to climb the second highest peak on the planet, after Everest. “It all comes down to faith,” Skatov said for BGNES. “I have faith that we stand a chance of climbing it.” So far he has never conquered any eight-thousanders in winter.
