The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is demanding new rules for working from home during the pandemic.

It presented draft amendments to the Labour Code, drafted by experts from the organization and from the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association.

The document notes that the rights and obligations of both workers and employees under the Code have to be updated – what happens when the employees are not fulfilling their obligations, how their working time is counted, to what an extent must they be at the disposal of their employers while working from home. According to the draft in the event of forced stoppage by employers the state should pay out compensations amounting to 75% of the workers’ salaries.

The draft is to be discussed on 29 December at a meeting of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation.
