Balkan Stream gas pipeline reportedly starts functioning on December 30

On December 30, Serbia will start receiving Russian natural gas via the Balkan Stream pipeline, Serbia’s President  Aleksandar Vučić announced during a visit to the Vrashka Chuka checkpoint on the Serbia-Bulgaria border, Serbia’s Public Broadcaster RTS reported. The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy has refused to comment on the news for BGNES.

Balkan Stream is an extension of the Turk Stream gas pipeline through Bulgarian territory. It is officially called project for "expansion of the gas transmission infrastructure of Bulgartransgaz EAD parallel to the north (main) gas pipeline to the Bulgarian-Serbian border". The project was named Balkan Stream by Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov.
