Novo Selo Monastery “Holy Trinity” featured in promotional video

Jointly with the Association of Bulgarian Tour Guides, the Ministry of Tourism is working on a series of promotional videos presenting lesser-known corners of Bulgaria.

Take a look at the 2-minute video dedicated to the beautiful Novo Selo Monastery “Holy Trinity” in the small town of Apriltsi in the Balkan range:

It was founded in 1830 as a family monastery. During the April Uprising (1876) the cloister became the centre of the so-called Republic of Novo Selo - it became a stronghold for the rebels who fought off the Turkish army in the course of nine whole days. As the uprising was crushed, the entire town of Apriltsi and the monastery were burnt to the ground, and its inhabitants killed by the Ottoman troops. Today there is a small museum in the chapel behind the monastery where the relics of the people massacred during the uprising are kept.
