International Children's Book Day

2 April is International Children's Book Day, the day of Hans Christian Andersen's birthday. This year the event is hosted by USA which has chosen as its message “The music of words”.

On this day the International Board on Books for Young People based in Zurich announces the winner of the Nobel Prize of children's literature named after Hans Christian Andersen. This year the nominees include Bulgarian writer Julia Spiridonova.

Children's Book Day is marked with a number of events in Bulgaria, many of which will take place online due to the epidemic. They include reading marathons of book excerpts, literature quizzes and online plays.
