Extreme fire hazard index declared for 8 districts in Bulgaria

Extreme fire hazard index is in force for territories in 8 districts of Bulgaria today. The warning applies to the districts of Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Burgas.

In the event of an extreme index, meteorologists warn of possible rapidly spreading very strong fires involving tree crowns. With such an index, fires are difficult to control, and extinguishing actions are limited to the flanks of the fire.

The nine municipalities of Bulgaria's Kyustendil region (Western Bulgaria) have created a detachment and developed a fire action plan. So far, the fires in the region have affected more than 10,000 decares, of which nearly 2,000 decares are forests. Dozens of uninhabited houses and buildings in the villages burned down.

The southwestern forest enterprise has also set up firefighting teams in the municipalities, but in some places the teams are not numerous. Equipment has been prepared and volunteer fire brigades have been formed, which are ready to take part in extinguishing the fires.

Great attention is paid to prevention.
