The European Parliament has discussed the sanctions imposed by the United States on Vasil Bozhkov, Delyan Peevski, Ilko Zhelyazkov and related companies under the Global Magnitsky.

During the debates, members of the European Parliament asked the European Commission how it viewed the actions of the United States and whether it would take action against Bulgaria and other member states that have problems with corruption. According to MEP Elena Yoncheva, the European Commission is too cautious in its criticism of Bulgaria. A mission of the Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group (DRFMG) is expected to arrive in Bulgaria next week.
