Today Bulgarian Orthodox church honors the memory of St. Sophronius of Vratsa - Bishop of Vratsa. He was a beacon of spirituality, a prominent Revival writer, and continuator of the enlightenment mission of Saint Paisius of Hilendar, a key Bulgarian National Revival figure.
The town of Vratsa celebrated the heavenly patron of the diocese in the ancient Ascension Church of St Sophronius, Bishop of Vratsa which is part of the “Sophronius of Vratsa” Revival Ethnographic Complex.
The celebrations started with a presanctified liturgy, headed by Metropolitan bishop Gregory of Vratsa. Later, the community along with representatives of various institutions, public figures, teachers and students, including graduates of the oldest primary school in the city "St. Sofroniy Vrachanski", gathered around the monument of the saint in the center of the Vratsa to pay their tribute.
