Bulgarian construction companies are ceasing operation due to the high prices of steel and construction steel rods. Some companies may even face bankruptcies.

Sales of raw materials have been suspended since the beginning of March due to the war in Ukraine. The price of 1 ton of reinforced iron bars has soared from EUR 741 to EUR 1,050. Imports from the major suppliers (Ukraine and Russia) was suspended two weeks ago. Stockpiles are insufficient. Brick manufacturers have also reduced sales due to the high prices of electricity and natural gas.

The mechanical engineering sector is also experiencing serious difficulties. Machine builders are concerned that other foreign suppliers are also halting exports due to the international uncertainty.
