President Radev: National Cultural Institute needed for Bulgarian communities abroad

Iliana Iotova (left) and Rumen Radev in Plovdiv.

Nearly 30% of Bulgarians live abroad. Each of them is an important national asset in this demographic crisis, President Rumen Radev said at the opening of the National Conference "Sacred Language" at Plovdiv University.

If each Bulgarian abroad preserves his or her national identity and is successful in his or her personal life, this is a huge success for Bulgaria. We do not have a National Cultural Institute to coordinate the disjointed efforts of ministries and agencies to work with Bulgarian communities abroad, the Head of State said. He thus supported Vice President Iliana Iotova's idea to create a National Cultural Institute "Ivan Vazov".

A unified language policy, sustainability and development of Bulgarian lectorates abroad, and the creation of a Bulgarian National Cultural Institute were the three positions that Iotova herself defended before the conference.
