“It is time the friendship between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan became a bridge for a more significant energy diversification,” outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said, in an interview with the Azerbaijani news agency Trend. Kiril Petkov stated further that the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector, IGB, which will be used to transport gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria, is 99% ready. The Bulgarian prime minister emphasized that he had gone to Baku with the aim of reducing Bulgaria’s energy dependence on Russia.

“During my visit we discussed, with President Ilham Aliyev, the option of additional deliveries of Azeri gas to Bulgaria and Azerbaijan’s political preparedness to support Bulgaria. At the same time, the gas infrastructure needs to be developed further, and it is important to consolidate cooperation among the countries of the region so as to guarantee the future security of the deliveries and  diversification,” Bulgaria’s outgoing PM Kiril Petkov said for Trend news agency, as quoted by the Bulgarian news agency BTA.
