Kiten: Forever love

Photo: Miglena Ivanova

With its velvet sandy beaches and good value for money, Kiten is very popular among Bulgarian holidaymakers, though not so much among foreign tourists. The small resort town is located close to Mount Strandzha, some 5 kms from Primorsko and 55 kms South of Burgas. It has two beaches – the Northern beach, called Atliman after the bay where it stretches, and a Southern beach which is shallower, wider, and which ends at the estuary of Karaagach River.

Kiten is most alluring in June, when the fragrance of linden blossoms is everywhere, though the town holds a fascination in the other summer months as well. In the early hours of the day, fishermen and anglers head for the sea and the river, while hikers can choose out of a multitude of itineraries in the environs for their walking tours.

Radio Bulgaria offers you a brief photo ramble around a small town in the southern portion of Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastline. And we start with a Kiten sunset:

The sea here is beautiful even when it is angry.

The weather rarely turns bad in Kiten. But if it ever does, you can go and take a stroll along the empty beach - you will surely see there is nothing finer than bad weather, and come to appreciate the time spent in your own company. And if you see footprints in the sand you will know you are not the only one enjoying some time alone.

At dusk the beaches of Kiten are particularly alluring.

These cute feathered friends are always ready for a photo-shoot.

Even if the sea doesn’t wash up a love message in a bottle, here in Kiten love is everywhere.

An evening stroll to the harbor, and the sight of the boats and yachts there could well turn your thoughts to sailing, and even dreams of travelling the world.

And if you are not a fan of spending all your time on the beach, in Kiten you can be an explorer – of ancient history. Here, amidst the bushes and the grass, there are remains that take us back in time – of Urdovisa fortress, which once served as a stronghold defending the people of an ancient Thracian settlement that once existed here.

Marine life thrives in the crystal-clear waters of Kiten’s beaches.

The colours of summer and sea beckon to holidaymakers to return to Kiten – over and over again.
