The offering of sites that will receive the European Heritage Label under the EU initiative has begun. The sign is symbolic, but those who receive it can apply for assistance under EU programs.
The initiative dates back to 2013. Since then, 60 cultural sites in Europe have received this mark. Only one of them is Bulgarian - the Thracian tomb of Alexandrovo near Haskovo, which received the sign in 2021.
Cultural sites bearing the European Heritage Label are believed to contribute to bringing the EU and its citizens closer together. The idea of the initiative is to strengthen the sense of belonging of European citizens and especially young people to the EU on the basis of shared values and elements of European history and cultural heritage; to promote respect for national and regional diversity and to strengthen mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue.

Applications are open until January 15, 2023 at the Ministry of Culture.

The results will be announced at the beginning of 2024 by the European Commission.
