The Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy and Innovation adopted at first reading a bill for the introduction of state control over the refinery "Lukoil Neftohim Burgas". The idea is to protect national security in the event of exceptional circumstances such as interruption of Russian oil supplies or production shutdown.

The bill provides for the state to oversee the entire petroleum and petroleum products sector, if necessary, by a commercial manager appointed by the Minister of Economy. "The manager will be appointed for a limited period of 6 months, which can be extended once for another 6 months," explained the bill's sponsor Martin Dimitrov.

According to Economy Minister Nikola Stoyanov, the likelihood of having to use the option is small, but it is good "to have tools to react in different situations".
