“There is a protected witness in the Nexo case who is worried about their safety,” Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev said in an interview with public service TV BNT, and added that the witness had been provided protection by the Justice Ministry’s Witness Protection Bureau.

Ivan Geshev stated further that the settlement reached between Nexo and the US Securities and Exchange Commission has nothing to do with the criminal investigation in Bulgaria, adding that the country has asked the US for legal assistance as there are numerous people who say they have suffered huge losses. An investigation has been ongoing in Bulgaria since September, and in the course of the proceedings at the National Investigation Service “there are charges against an organized crime group, tax crimes and money laundering”, according to Ivan Geshev. There is also data of computer crime, mediation in financing terrorism and fraud, Ivan Geshev stated further.
