Russia’s Gazprom has filed compensation claims against Bulgaria over a contract for the supply of natural gas that expired at the end of 2022, caretaker Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov said for the BNT. He refused to provide more detail, because the information is confidential, but assured that "everything under this contract is under control".

Currently, Bulgaria does not buy Russian natural gas and this is proved by certificates of origin. The suppliers participating in the gas supply tenders are required to present such certificants, Minister Hristov noted. Bulgaria is becoming a serious factor in supplying liquefied natural gas to the whole of Southeast Europe through the transit of natural gas from the LNG terminals in Greece and Turkey and by increasing the quantities of gas from Azerbaijan, Rosen Hristov went on to say.
