Legendary CSKA and national football team goal scorer Petar Zhekov has died at the age of 78. He remains in history as the first Bulgarian to win The European Golden Shoe award for the best scorer in Europe in 1969 with 36 goals. He also won the Silver Shoe in 1970 and the Bronze Shoe in 1973.

"One of the most amazing football players in the history of Bulgaria - Petar Zhekov - has left us. A genius striker, a dedicated teammate, a man with a huge heart - whatever we write about the first Golden Shoe winner will be insufficient to express our bow to his talent and contribution to CSKA," the club wrote on Facebook.
