Holy Synod opposes Sofia Pride march

In an address on the website of the Bulgarian Patriarchate, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church expressed its strong disapproval and discontent with the organization and holding of "Sofia Pride" march on June 17 in Sofia. In the address the Synod stresses that sexual orientation is not a matter of choice, but is a firmly established norm, as the pages of the Holy Scripture testify.

"Our Orthodox Church has always advocated respect for the free will of the individual in the choices that determine his life, but alongside this, it has firmly defended moral truths, uninfluenced by the pressures of the powerful of the day, by fashion and the vanity of the times."

"We call on all responsible institutions to do everything in their power to stop this act of obscuring the mind and involving the youngest and pure in heart in this event," urged the members of the Holy Synod.
